This is why movies don't make money anymore

I went to go see Hot Fuzz yesterday and it was pretty damn good. But the process of going to the movies and once inside sour the experience. It's bad enough when you gotta deal with traffic, but this is what it cost for me and my brother to see this movie.

$21.50 for two tickets
$11.00 for medium popcorn and soda
$4.50 for a 20 Coke Zero from the vending machine.

Four and a half friggin dollars for a bottle of soda. I can go to my deli and get 3 bottles for that price.

This is why movies don't make money anymore. Oh sure you got the bloated budgets and uninspired scripts and carbon copy's of carbon copies. But when it comes down to it going to the movies just costs to damn much. Thats why I'd rather wait for dvd or it come on HBO or something.

Well at least the movie was good. If it wasn't I'd really be pissed.

Just a sad day yesterday

You know not much shocks me anymore, but the mass killing at Virginia Tech yesterday really did floor me. I always joked that one day someone would top Columbine but I never honestly thought it would be anything like this. I mean in Iraq 40 or 50 people die like this any given day. But killing on this scale in one spot just doesn't happen in this country. Sure murder rates are high...but still we don't have people killing on this scale.

Now what's annoying me is yesterday Jack Thompson was on Fox News (I know, I know) and it was barely a few hours after the shootings and there he is on the phone pushing his agenda of "Oh well the violent video games...". We don't know any of the facts and there he is saying Grand Theft Auto probably played a role. I play Grand Theft Auto and go on killing spree's for fun in the game. But that doesn't mean just cause I play the game that I have the know how and the will to do it for real.

People need to understand that sometimes people are just sick in the head. Being a sociopath comes to mind and so far what they've said on the news about the shooter, he was a disturbed person. Well things build and build and if you don't have that little voice in your head that says don't do it then eventually you say to yourself why not and lets do it. Supposedly this all started cause he might have thought his girlfriend was cheating on him. Well the big issue here is he killed two people at 7 am and the administration at Virgina Tech didn't shut down the campus.

They should have shut down the campus right then and there and told everyone to go home. All those kids were sitting ducks in those classes. Some say they couldn't possibly evacuate the campus or close it down. That's a load of crap. School security is not nearly inept as one would imagine they are in this case. I remember when I was going to BMCC, it had to be in early 2001 when I was in the video lab working on a video when all of a sudden the alarms went off and they said evacuate the building. Now granted there were something like 5000 people going out two stair cases, but they evacuated the entire building in like 10 mins. If I remember apparently there was some sort of chemical spill near the financial aid office. A cleaner probably dropped some ammonia or something but someone freaked and they evacuated the whole damn building.

I think if my old school could evacuate over 5,000 people in 10 minutes then VT could have secured a campus of over 26,000 in maybe an hour.

All I know is I'm not jumping to conclusions about WHAT caused this guy to do what he did. It was obviously premeditated because you don't load up with that much ammo just to kill one person. But we can't go blaming video games or violent music or the gun laws. All we can hope is one this guy is burning the deepest and hottest fires of hell and two the warning signs are seen and something like this never happens again.

WE ALL GONNA DIE!!!

Theres a good ol fashion Nor' Easter headed for the big city in case you haven't heard. 70 mile an hour winds and 3-6 inches of rain. If it were cold there would be snow and lots of it.

Jesus you would think it was Hurricane or something. We get weather like this all the time. But on the off chance contact is lost with New York cause of a massive power failure (knock on wood) then you'll know why.

Some seem to think this is all due to some sort of galactic wave or something. I don't know about that one but with all the screwy weather it would make sense. Apparently all the earthquakes and volcanic activities is due to this.

On a side note for the lulz as the kids say, Al Roker getting all pissed off about Don Imus makes me laugh. Mark Simone says he was the straw that broke the camels back. Well if it were five years ago yeah...he was huge. This whole Imus thing is at epic proportions of stupidity. I mean words can't describe how stupid this whole situation got. I personally blame the Rutgers team.

If there's a moral in all of this it's NEXT TIME WIN. If they won this wouldn't even be an issue.

Ah well I'm hunkered down. The storms a coming.

The new header says it all

So yeah the I-Man has been rail roaded as CBS gave into pressure from the likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and they fired him. Imus knew it was coming but the absolute disgusting thing about this is they fired him in the middle of his annual radio thon that benefits the Imus Ranch, The CJ Foundation, and The Tomorrows Children's Fund. I mean they couldn't do this after it was over? But apparently the donations are up ten fold this year as people are coming out of the wood work to donate for the I-Man.

But now that Imus has been fired when will Sharpton be fired? Sharpton joined with Jackson to rail road the Duke players last year and they convicted them in the media but low an behold it turns out the whore lied and they were innocent. I don't think I even need to mention the Tawana Brawley saga with Rev. Al.

I'm just really sickened by this. Yeah it was a stupid comment, but people screw up all the time. They shouldn't be fired over it. Well if Imus does decide to come back there will be plenty of radio stations willing to hire him.

The most likely destination is WOR 710AM here in NYC which 10 years ago took a disgraced Bob Grant on after WABC gave him the boot.

It should be fun on the Today Show as O&A Fans are going to apparently to gather to show support so this isn't over by a long shot. Sharpton and his ilk had their say and now it's our turn.

Truly a sad day for broadcasting

I thought I was going to hold back on the whole Imus situation because honestly I didn't care. I've been listening to Imus for close to five years so I missed out on him during his glory days of being fueled on Cocaine and Vodka, but still the show is great to listen to. Imus's show is fun to listen to as they have fun with the news. Yeah the world sucks but that doesn't mean everything has to be so damn serious all the time. The news is just breaking that MSNBC has decided to cancel it's simulcast of Imus in the Morning. For the time being it's still going to be on the radio, but you know that's next.

What the fuck is wrong with this country. When did we lose our collective sense of humor. Ok so he called basically a bunch of ugly women. News flash most women basketball players are kinda butch if you catch my drift. 99% of the people saying Imus should be fired don't even listen to his show. How can you call for someone to be fired when you don't even listen to the show. MSNBC should be called Ms. NBC because it's quite obvious they don't have any balls for giving into all the nay sayers.

In the grand scheme of things, Imus isn't going to be to choked up because he hated MSNBC anyway so he's probably glad to be off the network, but I can guarantee he would of wanted to go out on his own terms and all the talking heads saying he should be fired isn't it. It's funny cause tomorrow and Friday is his annual radio-thon where he raises millions upon millions for charity, but I guess we're supposed to ignore all the good he does. So he said something stupid. We all say stupid things. Hell I've lost count of the times I've said things I wish I didn't. If you say your sorry that should be good enough. All MSNBC did today was basically bend over and say stick it in as far as you can to the 2% of the population that ruins it for the other 98% of us.

Granted I'm just one person, but MSNBC just lost me as a viewer. It's a shame because I really like Countdown with Keith Olberman, but maybe when MSNBC grows a sack maybe I'll watch them in the future. But for the time being at least there's still CNN. I gave up on FOX a long time ago for being a viable source of news and information.

For the time being, here's what will probably be the last Cardinal Egan sketch for a long time.

MSNBC, you can go suck it.

Some thoughts for Holy Thursday (April 5th, 2007)

It's Holy Thursday which for those of us of the Catholic/Christian faith is the day before Good Friday. Good Friday is the day Jesus was crucified and well Easter is the day he rose from the dead. I never personally understood why Easter seemingly revolved between March and April. It has something to do with the moon cycles. But you would think if they know for a fact the Birth of Christ was December 25th how hard would it be to make Easter a date set in stone. So what if Easter falls on another day...your marking the date he rose. Not the actual date. I mean for me and a lot of people 9/11 will always be a Tuesday no matter what day it actually falls on. It's just a thought though. I actually like Easter. I mean who doesn't like the candy but I can do with out the hard boiled eggs. I do not know how anyone can eat those things. Scramble them or put them sunny side up. Make em an omelet I don't care. But I don't eat eggs still in shell regardless if they are cooked.

Moving along, the British prisioners were released by Iran as that little nutcase did a public propaganda show before they left. Me personally I would have at least screwed with him before I left. Odds are he and his translators don't know slang and all the ways to work it in. I mean who could resist the classic a sphincter says what with him. I mean it's funny they're thrown in front of the cameras and told to kiss his ass. I can do that with the best of them. Smile and pose for a picture and say kiss my ass under my breath. Well I'm glad cooler heads seemingly prevailed and they all got out of this alive. Of course we'll probably find out soon enough if they were beaten and such during their stay. It's funny though the strip of water that caused all of this is maybe 3 miles wide so basically your looking at a bit of water maybe as wide as The Hudson River.

The disputed border reminds me of the feud over Ellis Island and Liberty Island between New York and New Jersey. Ok sure they're closer to New Jersey but come on no one set sail for the new world only to end up in New Jersey. People settled for New Jersey when lower Manhattan wasn't an option. This Iraq/Iran thing is all about boundaries. The Brits say they were in Iraqi waters and the Iranians say they were in Iranian waters. They have GPS to prove it. You know what they should do they should put a bouey in the water and have a big ass sign on it. One arrow points to Iraq and one to Iran. Anchor that sum bitch to the river bed and that's how you know where you are. This system works for most interstate highways.

I bring all this up because the Russian media is reporting apparently we (meaning the United States) is preparing to put a whooping on Iran. See its like I said they didn't send those carriers to the Gulf just to let the guys and gals work on their tans. But this alleged strike is supposed to go down tomorrow on Good Friday. I mean what better day to launch a strike that will surely kick start World War III then the day Jesus died. If you asked me a few years ago I would of said we should of bombed Iran way before Iraq. I mean Saddam you could keep in line, but the Mullah's who run Iran not so much. I mean these are the people that decree a rape victim is to be put to death because she had sex outside of marriage. These are the people who still sign off on stoneings...yes LET HE WHO HAS NO SINNED CAST THE FIRST STONE STONEINGS. Add to that their repressive system towards the modern world and the sympathy from me to them isn't to high.

But this all falls into this grand plan of democracy in the middle east so we can control the oil. These neocon PNAC types...God these people are morons. It's their fault we're in this mess to begin with. If they wanted democracy they would have made strides for it by now. Countries have these little things called revolutions. Granted there are plenty of groups in Iran who are willing to do that, but over all not enough to over throw the mullahs who run everything. Post 9/11 I bought into all that stuff but now it's like guys your plans just won't work. And all of this for Oil. Well if it were all for Oil then the price of Gasoline wouldn't be almost $3 a gallon. Granted most of that is taxes but still the point is if we got into all this for Oil then the damn price should be down since we put friendly people in charge of the oil

Ah well I'm done for now. Maybe I'll post a blog on my thoughts on Rosie and 9/11. But basically its like this. If it allows for an open investigation where ALL possibilities are explored then more power to her for giving a lunatic fringe topic some mainstream exposure. All I know it's clear that the mainstream media is panicking because I've seen more hit pieces on her, Charlie Sheen, and others then anyone else in recent memory. I'd personally also be happy with the Twin Towers rebuilt, but one battle at a time.
